When they’re not re-housing a bunch of Institute scientists, setting off car alarms or scrapping with their load orders, Fallout 4’s Sole Survivor can often be found fighting their way through the many dangerous locales of The Commonwealth.
Given the many perils that come with completing quests in a post-apocalyptic environment that’s often highly irradiated or filled with unfriendly folks who shoot first and ask questions later, it’s no surprise that Vault 111’s finest frozen treat has to spend a lot of time with their guard up and acting like a wasteland superhero.
If you’ve been searching for somewhere safe to take your vault dweller when they just want to jump out of their power armour, put down their gun and relax in some pleasant surroundings, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy exploring one of Fallout 4’s most iconic locations restored to something resembling its pre-war pomp?
The mod in question is simply called ‘The Concord Restoration Project - Phase II’ and is the work of a group of modders going by ‘Team Concord Restoration Project’.
Made up of Niston, Fennix88 and IceStormNG, some of this crew’s previous individual works have given you the chance bring nice weather to Far Harbor by inspiring peace among its factions and build a great bar for your settlements.
This time, they’ve collectively released a new version of a long-term project designed to turn “the whole of Concord into a late post-post-apocalypse era town”, restored to something resembling its pre-war state by Minutemen engineers a number of years after time the events of the vanilla game take place.
While a beta test of the project, dubbed ‘Concord Restoration Project - STRUCTURES ONLY’ was released back in 2018, this new version is close to complete in terms of functionality, though Niston admits: “(The mod) does not have all the features I originally wanted it to have and some rough edges remain.”
That aside, there’s still plenty to check out and enjoy in this edition of revitalised Concord, some of the exteriors and interiors of which you can turn into functional settlements by activating the workbenches in and around the new Concord Workhouse.
Almost all of the buildings, roads and fauna have been replaced with repaired equivalents, which bring a lot more colour and vibrance to the place, and, when paired with redesigned interiors that’ll protect you from radiation storms, make it a really interesting place to hang out or move into.
There are also a few really cool details to the town, such as the fact that if you power up the church, its clock becomes a fully functional one, which will display the in-game time and chime on the hour.
