When they’re not heading off on interesting quests or fighting with their load orders, Fallout 4 players can often be found building massive settlements throughout The Commonwealth.
After all, when you’re constantly shooting and bashing your way through dangerous areas filled with mutated creatures and bloodthirsty raiders, it’s important to have somewhere to go when you want to relax or tend to your wasteland-worn gear.
If you’re after a way to freshen up one of the many homesteads you’ve erected across the game’s map and generally end up siding against the Institute during its main quest, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy building a settlement to house a bunch of innocent folks from Fallout 4’s Institute?
The mod in question is called ‘Recruit Institute Scientists and Synths as Settlers’ and is the work of prolific modder LarannKiar. Some of their previous projects have given you the chance to convince a multitude of NPCs you’ll encounter during your adventures, including singer Magnolia and Nuka Cola superfan Sierra Petrovita, to move into one of your settlements.
This time, they’ve provided the means for you to go on yet another recruiting bonanza, by optionally adding over 30 Institute refugees, rendered homeless after you evacuate and blow the place up during several of the game’s main quest endings, to your populaces.
Coming with an array of Institute-themed settlement objects that you can build to help them feel at home, this group of scientists and synths can be found sheltering near Fraternal Post 115 and contains several named characters such as Dean Volkert, whose medical services make him the perfect doctor for one of your communities.
As well as doing all of the typical settler things, some of them will also be able to offer you slightly redesigned and fully-voiced Institute radiant quests from the vanilla game, including missions to rescue captured synths out in the wasteland.
If you’ve mastered Expired6978’s ‘LooksMenu’, you can even have a go at customising the appearances of some of the synths you’ll be rescuing or the Institute settlers themselves, giving things a uniquely personal touch.
Regardless of whether you’re now putting the finishing touches of a group of wooden shacks by crudely painting ‘Institute 2.0’ on a sign, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas.
