When they’re not gathering alchemical ingredients, playing post-apocalyptic dress-up, or practising their mini-nuke touchdown throws, Fallout 4 players can often be found getting into massive firefights against an array of foes.

Mods can often provide some interesting new enemies for these Sole Survivors to slay, including the likes of pre-war Chinese soldiers and swarms of ghouls infesting uniquely spooky abandoned metro tunnels.

If you’re a vault dweller who’s decided to side with the Institute in the intense war over The Commonwealth and think you could do with some beefier protection during battles against other factions, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like Fallout 4’s Institute forces could do with an equaliser in the war against the Brotherhood of Steel?

The mod in question is called ‘Tumbajamba's Synth Power Armor’ and is the work of modders Tumbajamba and RedLeviathan. The former has previously brought some incredibly tanky power armour to the game, while the latter has helped provide the perfect location to store your collection of protective suits.

This time, they’ve teamed up to give the Institute’s synths their own unique power armour variant, which is highly customizable and can be upgraded into a range of different variants designed to suit different specialisms.

In order to get your own hands on this interesting gear, you’ll either need to head to the Institute’s FEV Lab or craft it using a special workbench located inside of Lexington Pharmacy, where you can also find a rogue synth merchant who’ll be able to sell you a lot of useful mods for it.

For instance, if you figure you need some extra protection against the Brotherhood’s energy weapons, buying or crafting ‘Vigar’, which is one of five different add-ons for the suit’s torso panel, might be a good idea.

You could also try and get a hold of one of the three completely unique torso models included in the mod, one of which is designed for synth divers and will certainly appeal to those who love Bioshock’s aesthetic.

Though, before you install the mod and head off in search of these rare upgrades, you’ll need to make sure you’re playing a version of Fallout 4 that comes with the Far Harbor DLC.
