When they’re not chatting to random NPCs, fiddling with their power armour or decorating their settlements, Fallout 4’s Sole Survivor can often be found fending off the many dangers of The Commonwealth.
Whether it’s terrifying mutated creatures skulking around irradiated areas, fearsome raider bosses looking for their next victim or imposing Brotherhood of Steel gunships patrolling the skies, the sheer range of enemies inhabiting the wasteland makes just staying alive a minor miracle.
If you’re a vault dweller who prefers using high-tech laser weapons, rather than explosive ordinance or modern ballistic hardware, to zap your way to safety, a new mod might be worth loading into your chamber.
Fancy zapping Fallout 4’s litany of fearsome foes with a rare energy weapon from the Institute?
The mod in question is called ‘Photon Disruptor’ and is the work of modders Neeher and Dpillari. Some of the former’s previous projects have brought a new set of killer futuristic power armour and a shipment of playable guitars to The Commonwealth.
]This time, they’ve injected a fresh Institute-themed energy weapon, dubbed ‘The Photon Disruptor’ into the game’s level lists, ensuring that some of the synths you encounter will pack more of a punch.
As you can see in the preview video above, the weapon looks pretty unique, shoots deadly blue bolts and comes with its own unique animations for both humans and synths, ensuring you won’t have your immersion broken by any egregious clipping.
Speaking of immersion, Neeher has also put some thought into how the gun fits into Fallout 4’s established world, positioning it as an obsolete model of rifle used by Institute forces prior to the mass adoption of the game’s vanilla Institute weapon models.
So, if you defeat an old-school synth wielding one, make sure to take it as a trophy, as this will add it to the chemistry station as a craftable weapon, in addition to providing you with a potentially legendary spec (assuming you’ve hit level 19) gun to sling across your back in the moment.
You can also choose whether to go for 2K or 4k versions of the Disruptor’s textures, ensuring that it’ll definitely look as snazzy as the rest of your modded loadout.
Regardless of whether your Sole Survivor is now testing out their new toy by vaporising some super mutants, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077. You can also check out our mods of the month for February 2023.
