Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is coming to Steam next week and it will have a ton of welcome features for PC gamers. The game will launch with 4K support with performance up to 120 fps, but players hoping to use a controller should brace themselves.

According to a preview from Famitsu (thanks Wario64), Ever Crisis will launch without controller support, at least for now. Fans hope an update will eventually add support for controllers, but nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing.

Steam Deck owners, in particular, are hoping to play Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis and controller support would make that a lot easier. Granted, the system’s Community Layouts should eventually lead to a bearable control system, but fans have to wait for that.

Thankfully, Ever Crisis does have other features that should make it a worthwhile download for fans of this extensive franchise. Mobile users already playing the game can transfer their save to the Steam version, ensuring they won’t have to start from the beginning. Achievements are also a part of the game, with 16 for players to get if they’re hardcore.

Interest in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is due to the retellings of various stories of the massive FF7 lore. Aside from the original game and Crisis Core, Square Enix has also promised retellings of Advent Children, Before Crisis, and Dirge of Cerberus. The game also has a great visual style, using chibi models for exploration and more refined characters during battles.

Whether fans will get Ever Crisis is up to them, though it’s not like we’re lacking in FF7 content right now. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be coming to the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024, improving on Remake's flaws by adding more mini-games, bosses, and even alternate costumes.
