Fortnite has partaken in every crossover under the sun, so finding out that Pirates of the Caribbean might be the next one is far from surprising. While the timing is a bit odd, this should be a fun crossover for Disney fans who adore the adventures of Jack Sparrow.
The Xbox Era podcast (via iFireMonkey) said that a Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration will likely happen soon, though no date was revealed. Since the time frame is unknown, fans should take this with a grain of salt, though it wouldn’t be surprising.
At the time of writing, we haven’t had any new Pirates of the Caribbean projects in recent memory, making this Fortnite crossover feel odd. You can argue that we don’t need a reason to make these crossovers, especially since Eminem recently had one without and there wasn’t anything special tied to it.
Various Disney properties have already made their presence in the Epic Games battle royale, so Jack Sparrow and Davey Jones would fit just fine. Marvel and Star Wars characters are already all over the shooter, so adding more Disney properties wouldn’t be a bad thing.
The last time Pirates of the Caribbean had a major gaming presence was in Kingdom Hearts 3, where it was one of the world's Sora and co. visited. For what it was, the Pirates world was a fairly quality one, with a ton of islands to explore and ship battles to partake in. It’s probably the best use of that license in a long time, though anyone unfamiliar with the plot would have been lost.
We would be more surprised if Fortnite couldn’t get a collaboration deal done, as the battle royale has essentially become “crossover: the game.” That’s not a bad thing at all, as players are still enjoying the hell out of this battle royale years after its release.
