Forever Entertainment’s recent remakes have been a mixed bag, but fans have accepted them as they are making more titles readily available. The upcoming Front Mission 3: Remake is an example of that, as fans will soon be able to enjoy this game on modern systems. Both of its predecessors also received remakes from Forever, so having the trilogy readily available should be a win-win situation.
Unfortunately, fans have noticed that the third remake replaces its 2D cutscene art with new images that appear to be made by generative AI. While this is seemingly limited to the game’s cutscenes, it’s not a great look for Forever Entertainment or this strategy RPG.
A Bluesky post from RPG Site (via Nintendo Life) has compared the new images from Front Mission 3: Remake and the PS1 original. The remake attempts to use more realistic art assets, but there are clearly some off things about these images. Hands look weird, new assets are added, and it’s clear that this whole thing is a mess.
Many fans on X are also speaking out on this seemingly blatant use of regenerative AI, pointing out how odd models and characters look. Fans had expected AI upscaling to make images look a bit sharper, but this is a whole other level. The folks at Forever Entertainment have yet to respond, with their main X account promoting the game’s release.
While AI isn’t all bad and can be used to smooth out work processes, having regenerative AI “make” art is just stealing and making existing images work. If Front Mission 3: Remake is using regenerative AI for some of its cutscenes, it will be a shame and would be hard to recommend. The devs also worked on Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and House of the Dead: Remake, showing that they can easily work on these re-releases without this tool.
Although this won’t affect the game’s quality, this is still fairly disappointing news.
