While some GTA players are still trying to enjoy everything that Los Santos has to offer by getting up to wacky hijinks and spending all of their hard-earned cash, others are already looking forward to GTA 6.
For some, this has involved trying to predict what the next game’s map will look like, coming up with potential ideas for its soundtrack or intensely debating whether the game’s first trailer will be released this month.
However, one player on Reddit has focused in on whether it’ll contain one feature that’s already come to both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Skyrim, asking their fellow players if they’d be down for a spot of fishing.
Would you fancy going on a fishing trip in GTA 6?
The discussion this prompted is the subject of a recent thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, which began with a post from the player in question, user zeiartsy, who outlined their case regarding why GTA 6 needs a fishing minigame, saying: “I know it sounds so stupid for a game like GTA, but wouldn't it be so fun? There (are) so many lakes/oceans in almost all GTA games and we can't really do much with them.”
Somewhat surprisingly, many of their fellow players were pretty open to the idea, with user Not_RAMBO_Its_RAMO saying: “When it comes to fishing, I'd love it. It's a common pastime in Florida so it'd absolutely fit.” and russiansnipa adding: “I wouldn't even mind if it worked the exact same way as RDR2, more interactivity in the world is always a plus.”
Others were less willing to commit to casting their lines into the Vice City Everglades without some kind of GTA twist to make things more exciting, with user Intel2025 suggesting that addingillegal fishing or deep sea angling could be a good way to change up the existing formula.
Meanwhile, user No_Contribution2112 recommended making fishing from the deck of watercraft more of a priority as another way to evolve things from where they were in RDR2.
User TranquilPernil painted an in-depth picture of what this might look like using their own fishing knowledge, musing: “I want saltwater sport fishing. Get a 42' catamaran and head out to sea in search of billfish, wahoo, dolphin (mahi, not bottlenose), grouper (or) jacks.”
