Breakdown

  • GTA 6’s release is one of the most highly anticipated game launches of all time
  • Reportedly, development has fallen behind schedule despite Rockstar’s best attempts at bringing workers back to the offices.
  • GTA 6’s release has most likely been pushed forward to early 2026.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games of all time. Unfortunately, it's set to get its first setback - a much-feared delay from its 2025 target launch window.

However, it seems fans will have to wait longer as Kotaku reports that a year-long delay is on the cards. Initially, it was feared that an early 2025 release may turn into a late 2025 release, but recent news suggests that it's very likely that we may not get the game before a few months into 2026.

This has become a common trend among major game releases to have their dates pushed back, especially recently with CyberPunk 2077. However, for now, GTA 6’s early 2025 window seems very unlikely with a 2026 release looking like the most possible outcome.

While Rockstar reports that it wants to maintain the highest quality and security, multiple sources have revealed that the game has fallen behind schedule.

In December 2023, Rockstars unveiled the first GTA 6 trailer which has received over 182 million views and counting. The studio had to deal with major leaks in 2022, but a decade of anticipation and the return to fan favourite Vice City have only helped increase the hype.

Back in February reports had emerged from Bloomberg that Rockstar employees will have to work from offices 5 days a week, a notice that caught everyone by surprise and created massive frustration amongst the staff. The employees who were hired as remote workers felt like they were being pushed out by being asked to come work at the offices.

Rockstar has not made any official statement or announcement on the matter as the company and the delay may only be used as a “fallback plan” or “emergency” option if needed. On the other hand, the studio has the tendency to announce last-minute changes in plans so it won’t be surprising if we don't hear anything soon.
