Season 2 of Marvel Rivals is in full swing, and characters like Emma Frost have already made their mark on the meta, but she’s not the only powerhouse taking over competitive lobbies. Dive heroes like Spider-Man and Venom are slowly claiming the throne, climbing the ranks with sheer, immovable momentum.
Now that Season 2 has dropped players’ ranks by nine divisions, those who were previously in Celestial I–III (the game’s penultimate tier before One Above All and Eternity) are now sitting in Platinum I–III, alongside up-and-coming players who just climbed out of Gold. Little did they know that heroes like Spider-Man are an absolute nightmare to face.
It’s always been common knowledge that Spider-Man is the bane of every Strategist’s (Healer’s) existence in Marvel Rivals, but Season 2 made him just a tad more frustrating to fight, thanks to the latest balance updates. He’s now joined by Vanguard Heroes like Captain America, Thor, and Hulk, which have received buffs to their movement and survivability. This makes them even more of a threat to the backlines.
To make matters worse, Duelists have also gained new dive potential—so it’s not just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and Eddie Brock’s symbiotic companion. Scarlet Witch and Star-Lord have leaned harder into their semi-Dive roles, creating yet another headache for squishier characters like Cloak & Dagger and Invisible Woman.
The good news? Dive comps are completely counterable—assuming your team isn’t made up of players who picked up the game yesterday. Emma Frost can shut down diving heroes like Spider-Man mid-ultimate, and she’s not alone. Psylocke and Black Panther can be checked, too, with help from Bucky or Wanda. Namor is also a solid choice—when he’s not banned in Platinum and above, which is basically right alongside Hulk.
Players have voiced their frustrations with the Dive Meta shift, taking to Reddit and social media to vent. Some fans sympathize, while others offer their own solutions to what they see as a temporary issue. For Overwatch veterans, though? It’s just another Tuesday.
This definitely feels like the start of a brand-new meta for Marvel Rivals, and while players are still experimenting with team comps this early in the season, it’s only a matter of time before something GOATS-like emerges in the Marvel hero-shooter scene.
