Marvel Rivals remains a hot topic in the gaming world following its major launch back in December of last year. Since then, the game has attracted millions of players, thanks to its fantastic roster of Marvel characters and its competitive hero-shooter format.
As a free-to-play game, it’s no surprise that NetEase, the studio behind Marvel Rivals, relies on selling in-game cosmetics to turn a profit. New skins are released weekly for players to purchase, but some fans are expressing frustration that many of these recent additions aren’t inspired by Marvel’s comic book history. Instead, they seem designed to appeal more to the Asian market, according to one disgruntled "fan."
One disgruntled user on X (formerly Twitter) voiced concerns over the increasing number of “Asian skins” rather than those rooted in comic book lore. This sparked a response from Miller Ross, a well-known Marvel Rivals insider, who weighed in to clarify the distinction between these skin types, and how easy it is to confuse them.
While many of these skins are undeniably well-designed, especially the recent Scarlet Witch “Immortal Sovereign” skin, some players continue to be negative. They have been very loud with their opinions online, with a few calling the skins “unimpressive.”
Miller noted that these culturally influenced skins only make up about 12.8% of the game’s total 117 available skins, including recolors and default options. He also emphasized that several of them still draw from Marvel history. For example, the Immortal Dragon set is themed around K’un-Lun, a significant location within Marvel’s lore.
As for the Peach Momoko skins released a few weeks ago, they were created in collaboration with the acclaimed Japanese Marvel artist. Even the Lunar New Year holiday skins were part of a limited-time event.
Miller’s points are valid, as Marvel Rivals continues to release new skins at an impressive pace, week after week, some of which have unique themes. The big question is: how long can they keep it up? If their skin release schedule keeps up with the pace of their new hero drops, fans can expect a constant stream of fresh content.

Before Ultron’s potential debut next week, check out the two aforementioned skins currently in the shop: the aforementioned Scarlet Witch “Immortal Sovereign” skin and the “Immortal Avatar” skin for Adam Warlock. We're just shocked seeing more skins for Warlock, if we're being honest.
