Bioware’s Mass Effect series is still beloved by many RPG fans, which is why fans can’t wait for the next entry in this space epic. However, these games take time, and it seems like this one is still far far away, with an insider claiming it won’t be coming until at least 2029.

Gaming insider Jeff Grubb appeared in the Game Mess Mornings podcast (via Idle Sloth), claiming that we won’t see the RPG until 2029. According to Grubb, the most recent trailer is a similar situation to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which released something early to build hype and get fans excited.

"This game is nowhere near coming out. When they revealed Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018, this is similar in terms of timeline. We're not getting that game until maybe next year. So now do the math for that and we're talking 2029 for Mass Effect 5,” says Grubb.

If true, we’re six years away from the new Mass Effect game coming out, for better or worse. On one hand, it’s good to see the devs concentrate on this series again. However, a trailer would have been a lot better if this new entry actually had a release window planned.

While we’ve already mentioned Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, this also feels similar to the time Bethesda released a trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI. Most people admitted that the trailer was released early to calm fans down, though Starfield has seemingly done a good job with that.

Bioware has been through a lot over the past couple of years, as they focused most of their time and effort on Anthem, a failed live-service game. Granted, this game does have some fans and there was hope for a Final Fantasy XIV-style rework, but that never came and Anthem became a cautionary tale.

Sadly, Anthem also meant that the main Bioware team didn’t work on Mass Effect: Andromeda, which was worked on by Bioware: Montreal. The team was forced to rush Andromeda’s release, leading to a lot of backlash, due to the amount of bugs found. While the installment does have a small fanbase, most agreed that the main series was better.
