While Minecraft players do spend a lot of time and effort on creating massive masterpieces, such as faithful recreations of GTA Online’s Diamond Casino and the iconic Windows XP background, or even a working kebab machine, these are rarely solo endeavours.
After all, even if you don’t have a crew of other players to aid in planning out your huge project, it can be comforting to have a faithful pet to keep you company as you carefully place each block.
This is certainly true for one player, who’s taken to Reddit to celebrate finally being able to pet their in-game furry friend with the help of VR.
How attached are you to your Minecraft pets?
The thread on this topic in the subreddit r/Minecraft began with a post from the player in question, user Superamongus, who shared a clip of them giving their Minecraft dog a pat on the head, captioning it: “(This is the) first time I get to pet my dog in VR.”
Some of their Minecraft brethren seemed to enjoy the visual, with user ale8002 musing: “I don't know why but this just calms me for some reason,” and ablondedude adding: “This might be the first time in Minecraft history a dog has ever gotten a pet before. Which is such a happy occasion to witness.”
Others seemed interested in giving their own Minecraft pets a friendly scratch, asking Superamongus about their VR setup, leading them to reveal that they were playing the game standalone via an Oculus Quest 2 headset.
On the other hand, some were a little nervous at how the game might interpret their gestures of affection, with user RandomValue134 saying: “I'd be scared of accidentally punching him, because... video game logic.”
Meanwhile, user LusterCrow suggested that the game’s dog owners could do with more ways to interact with their precious pups, saying: “I love minecraft dogs so much, if only we could get dog skins and armour in minecraft, so we can take them on adventures without dying…”
Regardless of whether you’d also love some more dog-based treats, make sure to follow us for more Minecraft mods and Roblox updates as new content arrives in both games.
