Just when we think Monster Hunter Wilds couldn’t get any harder, fans are already theorizing about a possible Fatalis comeback after spending time in the Grand Hub in Title Update 1.
And they think the Grand Hub’s singing Wyverian Diva might be in on it.
Let’s backtrack a bit. For those who want to preserve their Monster Hunter Wilds experience, consider this your spoiler warning. If you haven’t finished the main story yet, now’s the time to walk away.
During Title Update 1, the re-emergence of the construct Zoh Shia has sparked intense discussion among Monster Hunter theorists. Now that players can finally hunt a High-Rank version of this supposed Equal Dragon Weapon, fans have discovered disturbing new details about its monster parts.
While the game doesn’t explicitly confirm it beyond some flavor text and a few lines of dialogue, it seems Zoh Shia has been mixed with the blood of Fatalis—one of the most dangerous, world-ending monsters in the Monster Hunter mythos. The description of its carvable parts includes references to it fighting off an urge to cause ruin, a trait heavily associated with Fatalis.
Fans have been suspicious of this monster since their first encounter with it in Low Rank. They noticed that Zoh Shia’s moves resemble those of Fatalis, including its resting animation and fire-breathing attacks. Only now, with the latest item descriptions, do players feel more certain that a greater monster is involved—and many believe that monster is Fatalis.
This is where the Diva comes in. While she presents herself as a graceful songstress, she’s also an enigmatic figure. Reddit user u/motoika pointed out similarities between the Diva and White Fatalis lore, tracing all the way back to the days of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
In their post to the Monster Hunter subreddit, they argue that the Diva—dressed in white with her eyes always closed—may be tied to the return of White Fatalis, the prime enemy from Monster Hunter Dos. According to long-standing lore, White Fatalis is said to return with the appearance of a lady in white. Japanese fans have long speculated that this figure could be Fatalis itself, taking on the guise of a young woman.
The theory has gained traction on the subreddit, with other players buying into the idea. After all, Zoh Shia has to come from somewhere. Monster Hunter fans are no strangers to the idea of Elder Dragons influencing or manipulating Wyverians either. Monster Hunter Rise, for example, featured Hinoa and Minoto, twin maidens who resonated with the Elder Dragons Ibushi and Narwa.
It’s been an exciting discovery for the community, and if the theory holds true, it could point to an even greater challenge looming ahead. No one knows exactly when White Fatalis will return, especially since the next Title Update is set to focus on the fan-favorite Lagiacrus.
But all signs seem to point toward the return of this world-ending dragon. After all, we’re building our Hunters to be their most powerful, and fans are ready to face this legendary threat again at a moment’s notice.
