Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest slew of event quests is about to get even crazier, and the next one is especially exciting for Gunlance mains.

The upcoming Event Quest, titled “Putting Up a Stink,” will reward players with the outrageous Cornpopper Gunlance. It goes live from July 22 until August 5, and players must be HR 21 or higher to participate.

The Cornpopper Gunlance has long been a staple among Gunlance weapons in Monster Hunter history. Known for its quirky corn-on-the-cob appearance, it's a powerful weapon capable of dealing massive damage thanks to its Strong Wide Shelling type, just as it did in previous entries. What makes this even more exciting is that it will be the first Gunlance in Monster Hunter Wilds to feature Strong shelling, making it quite overpowered.

The Cornpopper Gunlance Event Quest

Back in Monster Hunter Rise, the Cornpopper (also known as the Mighty Cornpopper) was a game changer for Gunlance mains. Players loved it for its ability to melt monsters’ health bars using powerful shelling attacks.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Cornpopper Gunlance reportedly has 160 Raw power, no Element, and two Gem Slots (a 3-socket and a 2-socket), along with blue Sharpness. However, its most important feature is the weapon skill “Crackling Cornpopper,” the signature ability that makes it truly shine.

Crackling Cornpopper boosts shelling power and fire attack while overheated. So, every time you use the Wyvern Fire blast, the Cornpopper triggers this ability, allowing your weapon to deal even more damage while Wyvern Fire is on cooldown.

While this might not sound too impressive on paper, we won’t know for sure until we get exact damage numbers from the training range. It may not outclass weapons like the Arkveld, Zoh Shia, or Artian sets, but at the very least, it’s one ridiculous-looking weapon perfect for layered weapon builds.

The “Putting Up a Stink” quest not only provides the materials for the Cornpopper but also unlocks a new outfit customization for Alma, though we still don’t know what it looks like.

Monster Hunter Wilds continues to roll out frequent event quests. Just recently, they gave us a Mikasa-like scarf for Attack on Titan fans, and even a Pinion Necklace armor piece that accentuates your hunter’s physique.
