After a slightly lengthy wait, Mortal Kombat 1 is finally getting its anticipated cross-play feature, or Kross-Play as the game likes to spell it, early next year. This means PS5 players will be able to tear out the eyes and mouths of an Xbox or PC user soon, opening the gates for even more opponents.
During a recent stream of the game, community manager Tyler Lansdown confirmed that fans will get cross-play next February, which is pretty soon. While Lansdown didn’t say when in February, fans at least know when to properly wait for the mode so they can kick in a PS5 or PC owner’s teeth in.
“Cross-play is coming in February between PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, so we’re very excited about that,” Lansdown said.
NetherRealm announced cross-play for Mortal Kombat 1 pretty early on, though they did say that it wouldn’t be a feature at launch. It took a while to get there, but fans will soon be able to play with their friends who own the opposite console.
The Nintendo Switch version of this fighter won’t be getting cross-play since that would be disastrous. While this port has gotten a few patches to make it more playable, it’s safe to say that Nintendo fans will just be playing with each other.
Still, despite some unfortunate greed-based decisions, it seems that Mortal Kombat 1 is going to have quite the future ahead of it. Fans who love the game’s cinematic Story Mode will be happy to know that the fighter will be getting an Aftermath-style expansion, ensuring another fun and cutscene-heavy mode. Let’s hope it doesn’t reboot this game’s universe again, but you can never be sure with NetherRealm Studios.

Fans can purchase Mortal Kombat 1 right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series systems, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Cross-play will be added sometime in February, which should also mean more updates for the game, which means it will only get better.
