Mortal Kombat 1 is still getting plenty of strong support from Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios, with seasonal events playing a major part in recent updates. Not only are there Halloween and Thanksgiving fatalities but there’s also a vampire event that makes fans miss Darkstalkers.

YouTube personality The Sphere Hunter was gushing over the vampire skins of MK1 on Twitter, adoring some of the detail added to these characters. She then says: “Imagine if we got like… a vampire themed fighting game or something? Oh wait…” which is a clear reference to Capcom’s ignored fighting game series.

Granted, Darkstalkers also has other horror monsters, but the game is called Vampire Hunter in Japan, therefore, it’s a vampire-fighting game. It might not have the same gore-filled mechanics as Mortal Kombat 1, but Capcom fans miss this franchise dearly.

Capcom did re-release most of the Darkstalkers games as part of the Capcom Fighting Collection, which launched to some pretty positive reviews. Unfortunately, we don’t know how it did in sales and if the company has any interest in reviving the IP.

Admittedly, Darkstalkers isn’t a complete afterthought to the company, though it’s starting to feel that way. There was a Blu-ray release of the anime OVAs based on the fighter, which was nice for fans of the franchise. Morrigan is also one of Capcom’s most popular characters, thanks to her, well, iconic design.

Jedah, one of the main villains in Darkstalkers, also managed to nab a fighter slot in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. Unfortunately, most see that game as the worst of the MvC series and fans are better off playing Dragon Ball FighterZ or Mortal Kombat 1 for their assist-based fighting cravings.

Unlike Darkstalkers, Mortal Kombat is a franchise that will continue to grow, as the games continue to sell like pancakes. This also means that the game’s annoying live-service elements will continue, as Warner Bros. has mandated that all of their major games should have them.
