Xbox Game Pass has been a resounding success since its launch in 2017, bringing a combination that includes day one releases of triple A titles, a wide range of backwards compatible games from previous Xbox generations, and enough indie games to make even the biggest gaming hipsters smile, all from just £7.99 a month.
It’s this high level of perceived value for money that has made Game Pass a substantial earner for Xbox, with the service bringing in almost $3 billion back in 2021. With that type of income, Xbox is consistently looking to bring new games to Game Pass, with obvious additions being a selection of historic, classic retro games to the catalogue.
Games such as Banjo-Kazooie, Fallout 1 and 2, and even the original Doom are already available on Game Pass, and Xbox shows no signs of slowing down the additions of these nostalgia-filled games.
A truly classic FPS
A recent tweet from leaker ‘eXtas1stv’ states that the absolute legend of a N64 game, Goldeneye 007, could be coming very, very soon.
The tweet when translated states that the game will be coming at ‘the end of January’.If we’re being honest, after a month that feels like it is literally 400 days long, the release of a game that invokes the childlike wonder of simpler times couldn’t be better.
Goldeneye 007 was of course one of the most beloved N64 games of all time - and for good reason. It redefined the first person shooter genre single-handedly, and helped to shape modern day FPS franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.

The main reason Goldeneye sits so high in regard is because of its frantic and fast-paced multiplayer. Many a night with friends was lost running through several of its now famous maps - Bunker, Temple, and of course Facility - all being among some of the most fondly remembered maps in all of gaming.
Of course with no official announcement coming from Xbox about the release being this soon, do take this, and any leaks, with a healthy pinch of salt. However, if this does turn out to be true, there are likely to be several quality of life improvements from the original release. Most obvious of these would be an improved frame rate, 4K resolution, and cloud saves.
But who knows? We might even end up seeing some additional content, such as new characters and weapons. I for one would love to see the addition of new Bonds added in - such as Daniel Craig, and maybe the removal of one short-statured, deadly hat-spinning henchman.
