Rockstar has just dropped a second trailer for their highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, which was recently delayed to May 26 next year, following its original 2025 release window. The cinematic trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but it does highlight the dynamic relationship between the game’s two central characters: Lucia and Jason.

A Bonnie & Clyde Relationship

Lucia and Jason’s bond seems to be a love born from crime. Rockstar has clearly taken inspiration from the infamous Bonnie & Clyde duo that captured headlines during 1930s America.

It’s already being speculated that players will be able to switch between both protagonists, similar to how Grand Theft Auto V handled its trio of characters, Franklin, Trevor, and Michael. In GTA VI, Lucia and Jason appear to be equally central to the story.

In the trailer, the pair is seen diving back into a life of crime shortly after Lucia is released from jail. While the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the broader plot, there are hints of a deeper conspiracy behind Lucia and Jason's story, and it looks like both characters are on a mission to uncover the truth.

Who are Lucia and Jason?

According to Rockstar’s game description on YouTube, Lucia and Jason find themselves on the darkest side of America, in the fictional city of Leonida. Now, it seems they must rely on each other if they want to survive the world they’ve become entangled in.

The trailer also reveals more about each character. Jason Duval, who is likely a playable protagonist, grew up immersed in crime, working for local drug runners. Now, he appears to be searching for a second chance, or maybe a more efficient way to his life of crime. The description teases that his relationship with Lucia may either redeem or doom him.

As for Lucia Caminos, she’s a fighter; raised in tough circumstances, and capable of delivering brutal hand-to-hand combat. She seems to be the muscle in this partnership, while Jason brings the strategy to their criminal endeavors.

Together, Lucia and Jason are either partners in crime, lovers, or both. We won’t know how their story ends until we get our hands on the game, but given its Bonnie & Clyde inspiration, a happy ending seems far from guaranteed.

Rockstar’s updated Grand Theft Auto VI website also reveals more characters connected to this gritty world of crime. You can check out more of their profiles here.
