As expected, Super Mario Bros. Wonder has been leaked and datamined before release. In the recent datamine for the latest Nintendo platformer, one key question has been answered: who is the new Mario voice actor?

With Super Mario voice actor Charles Martinet now retiring from the role after over 30 years as the character, many fans are wondering who the iconic VA’s replacement will be.

Nintendo has been keen to keep the new voice actor a secret, likely due to the volatility of online fans. However, data miners have already revealed who the new voice of everyone’s favourite wahoos and wags is in Nintendo’s holiday exclusive.

Via games industry forum ResetEra, a leaked list of voice actor credits is included in the datamine. While not confirmed as the new Mario voice actor, many have determined the character’s new voice to be that of Mick Wingert.

Known for his Jack Black soundalike performance in Kung Fu Panda games and shows as well as frequent stints as Tony Stark, Wingert is an established and long-running voice actor. The voice actor is one of the few voice actors without an assigned role in the new Mario datamine.

The datamine does reveal that there are some returning Nintendo voice actors for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. (Read our preview here!) While Martinet is out as Mario, Luigi, Wario, Walugi and more, Princess Peach’s Samantha Kelly and Bowser’s Kenny James are both present.

However, it does seem that yet another voice actor has been recast. In the datamine, there’s no reference to Daisy voice actress Deanna Mustard. However, the actress is present as a playable character in the new Nintendo game.

Despite no longer voicing the iconic Super Mario, Charles Martinet is still representing the Nintendo brand as Mario Ambassador. While the voice actor doesn’t currently know what that entails, he will be meeting fans and performing his iconic wahoos for years to come.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch Friday, October 20, 2023.
