Nintendo fans hope today's Direct might feature a new Mario game and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom DLC

Gamers usually have trouble tempering their massive expectations whenever a new showcase for their platform of choice is announced.

This isn’t too surprising, given that such broadcasts can offer the chance to get a fresh glimpse of a highly-anticipated title like Starfield, as Xbox’s latest show did, or, in the case of PlayStation’s most recent transmission, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16.

Now, it’s the turn of Nintendo fans to get hyped, with the publisher set to host a Direct later today, which already has a ton of speculation swirling around it.

What are you hoping to see at the Nintendo Direct later today?

While a look at Pikmin 4 is already confirmed for the show, what could feature alongside it is still very much up in the air, with an array of titles being on the wish lists of fans.

Some have chosen to go along with the ideas being suggested by leakers like Twitter user @Pyoro_ND, whose recent posts seem to have been hinting at the show potentially featuring a new 2D Mario game and something to do with Detective Pikachu.

In terms of the former, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb speculates in the latest episode of Game Mess: “I do think this gets announced [at the Direct], I’m very hopeful for that”, adding that he expects it could feature an aesthetic or style that’s a bit different from its recent predecessors and won’t be designed as a direct crossover between the series and the recent Super Mario Bros movie.

Across Twitter, Reddit and ResetEra, other things many players have also declared their desire to see include a Chrono Trigger HD 2D remake, a Fire Emblem 4 remake, and even an early look at some DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Also on the wish lists of some fans, but viewed as an unlikely inclusion for this Direct both by members of the community and those in the know, with Grubb saying: “I think Metroid Prime 4 is not here, I think Metroid Prime 4 is at [another] Direct later this year.”

Meanwhile, another thing that seemingly won’t be included in the show are any updates on a possible Nintendo Switch 2, with Grubb saying: “They don’t really announce hardware at Directs,” and adding that this could be something that’s also teased or revealed later this year instead.
