Playstation and Xbox fans usually have trouble tempering their massive expectations whenever a new showcase for their console of choice is announced.
This isn’t too surprising, given that such broadcasts can offer the chance to get a fresh glimpse of a highly-anticipated title like Starfield or, in the cast of Sony’s most recent transmission, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
However, it seems that the Final Fantasy 16-focused State of Play announced by the Japanese publisher late yesterday might be a rare exception to this rule, with some fans wondering whether it’s worth tuning in at all.
Will you be watching Playstation’s Final Fantasy-fuelled State of Play?
The concerns of these JRPG fans regarding the broadcast, which is set to take place on both Twitch and YouTube at 5PM EST/10PM BST on April 13, can be found scattered throughout a thread on ResetEra reacting to Playstation’s announcement.
While a few fans seemed excited for the show, which Playstation has promised will include: “more than 20 minutes of new Final Fantasy XVI gameplay”, others were a bit less enthusiastic in their responses.
For example, user LightKiosk said: “Damn, on one hand nice, but on the other hand (I don’t know) if I wanna see more of FF16 at this point. (It) feels like we've seen a lot of it already.”, while Magneto outright declared: “Yeah, the game is out in like 2 months time (on June 22), I'm skipping (this).”
Similarly, user PlanetSmasher suggested they’d only be interested in tuning in to see elements of the game that haven’t already been shown off before.
They responded to a line from Playstation’s blog post about the show, which says it will feature: “details on the game’s dark fantasy setting, the powerful Eikons and the Dominants who house them, and the flashy battle system teased in those early trailers”, by saying: “This is literally all they have talked about for two years, though. People want to see the RPG elements, not more details on the Eikons and the battle system.”
Others are seemingly holding out hope that the broadcast might be accompanied by the announcement or release of a demo for the game.
