Pokémon GO continues to have a huge mobile presence, but fans have been frustrated with the various decisions developer Niantic has made. Many were already tired of the microtransactions but now the company is making it harder for Android players to redeem codes.
The company announced that Android users playing their mobile game can only redeem their codes on Niantic’s official website. Before this update, users were able to redeem codes on the app itself, which was a much easier process. While not difficult, it is annoying that players now have to click a website instead of just redeeming codes in the app itself.
“Starting on February 13, 2024, there will be a change to how Trainers using Android devices redeem offer codes in Pokémon GO. After this date, Android devices will be unable to redeem offer codes within the app—instead, all users can redeem their offers via the Pokémon GO Web Store,” wrote Niantic.
No explanation was given as to why Pokémon GO is limiting redeem codes for Android users, aside from the company hoping this transition is smooth for everyone. It also seems like Apple users aren’t affected by this, as those players can still redeem their codes in the app, which is still a lot easier.
Fans complaining about Niantic’s hit mobile game is nothing new, but the fact that it happens so frequently is disappointing. We’ve seen the company decrease the game’s encounter rate after accidentally increasing it, despite fans enjoying said bug. Various events have also favored those who pour money into the game, leaving those who try to play for free behind.
It’s easy to see why fans would rather play the Nintendo Switch games over Pokémon GO. Even with all of their technical problems, Scarlet and Violet are playable games that are nowhere near as greedy.

Pokémon GO is available now on iOS and Android devices, though the latter can only redeem codes through their website now.
