Despite a large section of the community having already held a funeral for Red Dead Redemption 2’s online element, the game’s single-player experience is still going strong thanks to modders.

With interesting mods including things like a huge overhaul of the game’s economy, Yakuza-esque brawling styles and even an undead version of John Marston still being produced on a regular basis, these valiant modders are clearly still fighting to make Rockstar’s wild west adventure relevant.

Now, one of the game’s most popular mods from 2021 is doing just that once again, having received a 2022 remaster that includes some fresh and exciting features.

Are you up for becoming a wild west assassin in Red Dead Redemption 2?

The mod in question is called ‘Contracts Remastered’ and is the work of prolific modder Shtivi, whose previous work has enhanced the game’s bounty hunting activities and given you the chance to own a customisable personal boat.

This time, they’ve aimed to improve on their popular mod ‘RDR - Contracts’, which adds a bunch of randomly-generated assassination missions to the game that can be used to make money, and has been a favourite of many players since its debut in early 2021. The new version of the mod attempts to build on and improve the framework of this predecessor.

One way it does so is by introducing a new mechanic designed to generate an in-game scrap of paper with an image of your target’s face on it, with this now being your only means of identifying your exact target once you reach their location, seemingly adding in the option of accidentally taking out the wrong person and having to scramble to rectify your mistake.

Also making things more challenging are more dynamic mission scenarios and AI improvements that’ll make NPC targets blend more naturally into the environments and settlements of the vanilla game, allowing you to shake things up by adopting approaches designed to make them react in certain ways, such as taking them or another NPC hostage.

The mod also comes with more tutorials than the original, making this the perfect chance to dive into being an assassin, even if you haven’t played the older version.

If that’s what you want to do, just make sure to grab both the latest version of RDR2’s Script Hook and LMS’ ‘Lenny's Mod Loader’, as you’ll need them to to get things working as they should.
