Despite a large section of the community having already held a funeral for Red Dead Redemption 2’s online element, the game’s single-player experience is still going strong thanks to modders.
With interesting mods, such as those that allow you to explore nostalgically-tinged locations, take up the life of a wild west hitman or run your own moonshine business without going online, still being produced on a regular basis, these valiant modders are clearly still fighting to make Rockstar’s wild west adventure relevant.
Now, one has decided to cater to those who enjoy heading into the hills to hunt for lost treasure instead of getting their hands dirty with robberies, by giving them a new tool to help locate loot.
Are you sick of having to rely on old maps in order to find hidden loot?
The mod that does so is called ‘Metal Detector in SP’ and is the work of prolific modder Shtivi. Some of their previous work has brought some immersive changes to hunting and given you the chance to own a customisable personal boat.
This time, they’ve taken on the task of bringing Red Dead Online’s metal detector, unlocked by progressing through the collector role, to single-player, with a couple of modifications.
Acquired at any of the game’s fences, the mod’s detector sounds a little different to its online counterpart, but will still guide you to nearby collectables, which the mod generates at various sites around the map, by blinking when you get close.
When you’ve found some plunder in one of these zones, which will activate notifications whenever you get close, you’ll receive the option to dig up the collectable via an animation that’s a bit less fancy than the one used by the Online version.
Your prize could be anything from jewellery or gold bars to ammo or cold hard cash, with these only being some of the possibilities on offer, giving you the incentive to keep digging and see what you find.
First, though, you’ll have to grab RDR2’s Script Hook, an Asi loader and EnergiDaan’s ‘Online Content Unlocker’ to get things working as they should.
Regardless of whether you’re now returning to camp covered in dirt and rich beyond your wildest dreams, make sure to follow us for coverage of some interesting mods for the likes of Skyrim and Fallout. You can also check out our mods of the month for December 2022.
