Despite a large section of the community having already held a funeral for Red Dead Redemption 2’s online element, the game’s single-player experience is still going strong thanks to modders.
With interesting mods including things like a huge overhaul of the game’s economy, Yakuza-esque brawling styles and even the ability to become a wild west hitman still being produced on a regular basis, these valiant modders are clearly still fighting to make Rockstar’s wild west adventure relevant.
Now, a pair of them have decided to bring one of Red Dead Online’s roles to single-player, giving Arthur Morgan the chance to take up the life of a backwoods brewer.
Are you interested in brewing a bit of alcohol to help the Van Der Linde gang’s bottom line?
The mod in question is called ‘Moonshiner Role’ and is the work of prolific modders bolmin70 and Shtivi. Both have a history of working on interesting and expansive RDR2 mods, with the former having brought dynamic seasons and minimum-wage jobs to it, while the latter has enhanced the game’s bounty-hunting activities and given you the chance to own a customisable personal boat.
This time, they’ve teamed up to add a bunch of new missions to the game based around the illegal hooch business, which sees Arthur or John team up with a moonshine brewer named Clint, who you’ll need to break out of jail to kick things off, to start a brewing enterprise.
Once this new friend is freed from bondage, you’ll need to pay $100 to set up a moonshine camp, which is where you’ll do all of your brewing and can be set up in various locations around the map, ensuring that you won’t face too much of a commute from your current abode.
The moonshine production system itself is designed to be similar to the one from Online, with mash and flavouring of your choice going into each batch, shaping how much a full shipment of 20 bottles will net you in profit, as well as how long it’ll take to make and whether any extra ingredients will be required.
Also key to earning a pretty penny is avoiding both the law and the sabotage attempts of fellow moonshiners during the sales missions you’ll have to do in order to deliver your precious liquor to a buyer, with the latter also being able to launch raids on your camp.
Though you can get some measure of revenge as your business grows, by heading out on ‘Bootlegger Missions’, which will see you raid other operations in order to lower their chances of interfering with your business.
If this sounds like a life you’d like to lead, you’ll have to make sure to grab the latest version of RDR2’s Script Hook, LMS’ ‘Lenny's Mod Loader’ and energidaan’s ‘Online Content Unlocker’ first.
