It looks like that heavily-rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster won’t be happening, at least not yet. While things could always change in the future, it seems that it depends on the bigwigs at Rockstar Games. There’s always a chance that this game is going to get a huge re-release, but that’s not what fans have been teased with.
Rob Wiethoff, the actor who voices John Marston, previously teased that something big about the game was coming, and he was pretty excited. Wiethoff then said that the announcement wasn’t related to anything from Rockstar Games, trying to calm fans down. It looks like we now know what he was talking about, as a meet-and-greet with the game’s cast has been announced for the National Gaming Expo.
Although Wiethoff hasn’t said anything else yet, it tracks with the excitement the Red Dead Redemption 2 actor was feeling. He also said it wasn’t Rockstar Games-related, so the meet-and-greet would match up with what he was relating to.
This isn’t to say that RDR2 is never going to get re-released. After all, Nintendo released the Switch 2, which is more than capable of playing this game, and we’re sure Rockstar would want that audience. Remasters are usually financial successes, so re-releasing this open-world game with 4K resolution and 60 FPS would be an instant win for the company.
We also don’t want to be too harsh with Wiethoff. Although a meet-and-greet isn’t what most fans wanted, there shouldn’t be any malice towards him for his excitement. Being able to talk about your acclaimed work with fans is something worth getting excited about, so Wiethoff wasn’t trying to mislead anyone.
Only time will tell if fans ever get this Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster. Rockstar Games is fully devoted to GTA 6 right now, but we’ll see what happens.
