Despite a large section of the community having already held a funeral for Red Dead Redemption 2’s online element, the game’s single-player experience is still going strong thanks to modders.
With massive mods including things like a huge overhaul of the game’s economy, Yakuza-esque brawling styles and Max Payne-style slow-mo mechanics still being produced, these valiant modders are clearly still fighting to make Rockstar’s wild west adventure relevant.
Now, one of them has embraced the spirit of Halloween and brought a taste of the original Red Dead’s Undead Nightmare expansion to the second game.
Are you up for some Halloween-themed gunslinging nostalgia?
The mod that does this is called ‘The Undead Cowboy’ and is the work of a group of modders led by TheHeisenbussies5, whose previous work has overhauled John Marston’s head and made his facial scars more closely resemble those he exhibits in the first game.
This time, with the help of fellow modders xuruthor and iAbokai, they’ve replicated the horrific zombified appearance Marston can end up with in Undead Nightmare, complete with green flesh, copious bloodstains and only one working eye.
This has been accomplished by creating new versions of the original textures, animations, and outfits used by zombie Marston, ensuring that he’ll look just as polished and detailed as the rest of RDR2.
So, why not wander into Blackwater, head for the saloon and watch as the NPCs try to pretend that the man who’s just walked in doesn’t look like he’s just been dug up from the town’s graveyard?
You might end up needing that refreshment by the way, as TheHeisenbussies5 looks to be working on an addition to the mod which will give you an army of undead to fight your way through.
For now though, just make sure to grab both RampageDev’s ‘Rampage Trainer’ and LMS’ ‘Lenny's Mod Loader’, as you’ll need them to get the spooky times underway.
