With the remake of Resident Evil 4 having arrived late last month, it’s a great time to be a horror game buff in search of something to play with the lights off and scare yourself silly.

Some of these fearless fans have simply set the game to the highest difficulty possible, picked out their favourite weapon and dived into the terrifying action, but others are getting their kicks out of modding the game, just as they did with its demo.

While some of the efforts of these hardcore horror lovers have already added the likes of Thomas the Tank Engine, a few pandas and even a mouse version of Ashley from fan art to Resi 4, if you’ve got a fear of creepy-crawlies, a new mod might be just what you’re looking for.

Desperate to be able to play the Resident Evil 4 Remake without having insect-based nightmares?

The mod in question is called ‘Cows replacing Novistadors’ and is the world of prolific modder FluffyQuack, who has produced a lot of the management frameworks required to make sure mods for Resi games can work as intended.

This time, however, they’ve decided to act upon a request to make a simple change to the game that’ll make playing it a bit more comfortable for those with intense bug phobias.

The change in question concerns the Novistadores Leon encounters at various points throughout the game, which are horrifying human-bug hybrid creatures that would definitely lead you to move house if you found one living under your bed or in your garden.

So, FluffyQuack has decided to make them a little less scary by swapping their models for those of cows, which should help alleviate some of the visual terror they cause, even if “they'll still behave and sound the same.”

You might also find batting them a bit more difficult as a result of the swap, with FluffyQuack explaining: “they won't animate and the hitboxes are like the original Novistadores, so hitting them will be tricky.”

If you’re so desperate to rid yourself of the bug menace that you’re willing to deal with these consequences, you’ll first need to grab FluffyQuack’s own ‘Fluffy Mod Manager’.

Also, if you’re hoping for a similar replacer for the game’s spider-like plagas, some arachnophobic players have seemingly asked FluffyQuack if they could make one in the mod’s comments section, so you might be in luck soon.
