With the remake of Resident Evil 4 arriving at the end of last week, it’s a great time to be a horror game buff in search of something to play with the lights off and scare yourself silly.

Some of these fearless fans have simply set the game to the highest difficulty possible, picked out their favourite weapon and dived into the terrifying action, but others are already experimenting with modding it, just as they did with the game’s demo.

While the pre-release efforts of these hardcore horror lovers brought the likes of Leon’s Fortnite skin and even John Wick star Keanu Reeves to Resi 4, one of the fresh mods that have come out since the full game dropped offers something even more meme-worthy.

Fancy taking on everyone’s favourite train in the Resident Evil 4 Remake?

The mod in question is simply called ‘El Thomas’ and is the work of prolific modder XxCRAZYPOTATOxX. Some of their previous projects have made Resi 3’s Jill a big fan of Animal Crossing’s Isabelle and turned everyone in that game into a bean from Fall Guys.

This time, they’ve taken Thomas the Tank Engine, whose likeness they also added to Resident Evil Village’s Lady Dimitrescu back in 2021, and combined him with Resi 4’s infamous Del Lago to create something truly terrifying.

As you can see in the showcase video above, the massive Plaga-infected amphibian has now also become stricken with some kind of train-based malady, making Leon’s battle with it a lot more surreal.

Thankfully, a relentless barrage of harpoons is still all it takes to down the beast, even if you accidentally hit the hideous metal wheels it’s suddenly sprouted, though you might want to take a minute before you inflict the fatal blow to scream ‘choo-choo’ as it pulls your boat through the water at speeds that might concern the Fat Controller.

No matter whether you take the time to add your own sound effects to it, your first encounter with this Thomas-themed leviathan will no doubt make for an incredibly memorable experience, even if it won’t change your entire playthrough like Skyrim’s infamous ‘Really Useful Dragons’ mod does.
