Over half a year since Naughty Dog announced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, not much has been revealed yet, aside from it being a PS5 exclusive. Some exciting rumors for this game have since risen up, like an Infected, but only time will tell if they're true.

Regardless of the lack of updates and information, it is exciting to see Naughty Dog delve into the world of sci-fi, as they’ve been in Sony’s The Last of Us mines for a while.

However, a post from 4Chan (via the Gaming Leaks subreddit) is claiming that Intergalactic will have those open areas from The Last of Us Part 2 people liked so much. Combat-wise, this game has been compared to Dark Souls, which should be enough to get people talking. Melee combat is a major focus, as the trailer shows, so this does make some sense.

Considering this source comes from 4Chan, fans should take it with a grain of salt. While the site has been able to leak some correct stories before, there are also plenty of users there who just want to troll. Then again, you can say that about pretty much every gaming insider out there.

If these leaks do end up coming true, we're interested in seeing some of this Intergalactic gameplay soon. The Last of Us Part 2's new roguelite mode shows that Naughty Dog can break away from the cinematic gameplay whole they put themselves in. Granted, cinematic gaming is far from a bad thing, but there are fans tired of Sony's movie-like game formula. They want some more action.

With the company still re-releasing and tweaking their Last of Us games, we're sure that their upcoming sci-fi epic will feel like a breath of fresh air. Sony might not innovate when it comes to gameplay mechanics, but the new setting and challenging combat should get people talking.

No release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been confirmed, with Neil Druckmann previously saying it won’t make a 2026 release. It looks like 2027 is the most likely release window, unless Sony says otherwise. Hopefully, they release some gameplay by then, so we'll know if this is really another Soulslike with The Last of Us gameplay.
