The long wait is almost over, as one of the gaming industry's horror behemoths, the Silent Hill franchise, is about to make a return. It's been well over a decade since 2012's Silent Hill: Book of Memories rounded off the franchise, and even Hideo Kojima himself couldn't drag the series out of development hell.
Fortunately that's now set to end, as Silent Hill Ascension is now available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store. This interactive series is set to shake up the existing canon with player choices and a community atmosphere, and it's closer than ever.
While it won't quite sate the widespread anticipation for Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake or the upcoming mainline game Silent Hill f, any Silent Hill is better than none, right?
Will you be playing Silent Hill Ascension when it comes out on mobile?
While Konami has yet to officially confirm the release date for Silent Hill Ascension, its new listing on the Google Play Store all but guarantees we'll see it by the end of this month.
As per that store page, which is still live at the time of writing, Silent Hill Ascension will premiere on October 31, 2023, at 9 PM ET. Following that new scenes will be added daily, where players can then make a collaborative decision as to how the story pans out, similar to Supermassive Games titles.
The game was first announced in October 2022's Silent Hill Transmission, which set out the next few years' worth of horror titles from Konami. Crucially this is the first in that release slate, meaning expectation is bound to be sky-high.
Following Silent Hill Ascension's premiere on Halloween, we can expect a good string of daily scenes with a decision to be made in each one, determining where the story goes next. Since it isn't a full-fledged return to traditional Silent Hill, some fans on the Reddit are less than enthusiastic:
While the hype train hasn't quite departed yet, Silent Hill Ascension is sure to usher in a new era of releases in the long-defunct horror series.
Elsewhere in the news, the Red Dead Redemption remaster finally now runs in 60 FPS on PS5. Hitman Blood Money is also getting a remaster, and more pictures from Haunted Chocolatier have landed.
