The Simpsons Hit & Run is still a beloved licensed game, managing to combine great gags from the show with solid driving gameplay. Fans don’t know why a sequel to this classic title never came out and the devs are just as confused since they were working on a sequel.

MinnMax released a three-minute clip of their interview with the game’s developers from Radical Entertainment, who revealed that they were working on Hit & Run 2 before it was canned. John Melchior, the game’s producer, said his boss was just as confused when it came to the follow-up getting scrapped, especially since the first game did really well.

"He was just like, 'I don't understand. I gave it to you on a silver platter, why aren't you just saying yes and doing these games?' It was just a really bizarre decision,” Melchior reveals. “I'll never understand it. Most people on the production level never understood it."

Considering how fans are still asking for a sequel to The Simpsons Hit & Run, this makes the decision to leave it behind even more baffling. To this day, many fans claim that this is the best Simpsons game ever made, so it’s easy to see why all these gamers want a sequel.

One game that came close to Hit & Run’s quality was The Simpsons Game on PS3, Xbox 360, and a bunch of older consoles. Released to coincide with The Simpsons Movie, this game had impressive visuals and some solid gameplay. Most agreed that the gameplay was a bit basic and repetitive, but the production elevated it to a great licensed title.

The Simpsons Hit & Run looks like a GTA clone on paper, as players get to roam around Springfield as each member of, well, The Simpsons. However, despite being able to kick anyone in the game, Hit & Run mostly focuses on fast-paced vehicle missions, which are great. It also helps that various vehicles are from the show’s history, adding some cool fanservice.
