The world of The Sims is full of wacky events and unexpected occurrences that can leave players dying with laughter and searching for an explanation.
While the unending supply chain of madness recently paused so that players could react to news of The Sims 5 by outlining their desire for a Sims 2 remaster, things are now back on track.
However, the latest incident on the lips of players isn’t a family of Keanu Reeves clones, some conspiracy-laden phone calls from Santa Claus and a child that looks a bit like Voldemort, but something a bit more sinister instead.
Have you ever resorted to a Sims strategy this evil?
The thread containing this controversial playstyle in the subreddit r/thesims began with a post from the user responsible for it, Nova_Aetas, who shared an image of some sims innocently farming and declared: “This game brings out the worst in me and I love it.”
Naturally, it didn’t take long for some of their fellow Sims stans to realise that something was afoot, with user comradepomegranate casually asking: “Let me guess, you’re enslaving townies?”, leading Nova_Aetas to admit that their sim’s rise from homelessness had involved them building a colonial-style plantation manned by unpaid townie labour.
Unsurprisingly, rather than moralistic lectures, most of the reception to this revelation in the thread involved other users sharing similar stories from their own playthroughs, with user SierraSeaWitch saying: “I like to use the clubs to start cults where my sim is leader. Usually they are gardening, cooking, and cleaning for me. Throw in romance actions, too, and you’ve got one heck of a cult playthrough.”
Likewise, user underwritress revealed: “My indentured service group (are) an art club who I summon at all hours of the day to paint for me. Over time they become more and more talented and I earn more and more money selling their works, it's so satisfying.”
Meanwhile, user charliecloude rather ominously mused: “Honestly though, this is such a good idea for royalty/rich playthroughs.”
