While those willing to mod the Sims have been up to some crazy things over the years, the vanilla versions of the games arguably offer just as much in the way of wacky glitches and hilarious occurrences.
Whether it’s a wedding gone terribly wrong, a ghostly hug, or a family of Keanu Reeves clones, things just keep getting weirder with each new update.
Now, it seems Christmas has come early for lovers of absurd Sims antics, with one player on Reddit having been the target of a rather unnerving phone call from the game’s jolly gift giver.
Have you ever had an unpleasant interaction with Sims Santa?
This strange event is the subject of a thread in the subreddit r/thesims, which began with a post from the player whose sim was affected by it, user gabbyd14, who share a screenshot of Father Winter, the Sims version of Santa Claus, asking their sim what they thought of the theory that the game’s residents are living in a simulation, captioning it: “Has anyone else gotten this phone call??”
Thankfully, it seems they aren’t the first to endure such madness, with user Conscious-Studio8111 saying: “Oh yeah I get that call like once a play through. It’s just one of the possible prank calls that came with (the) Eco Life (expansion),” and Pinkee808 adding: “I’ve seen a YouTube video where the sim got this phone call and then they stared at the camera, like they were looking directly at the player. It was weird"
Meanwhile, user imnotonredditok wondered how gabbyd14 had decided to handle the strange interaction, leading them to reveal: “Honestly, I’m too scared to. My game is still on that pop up just sitting there…I don’t want to crush his dreams.”
While they clearly unnerve some players, these kinds of weird phone calls seem to have become beloved by a section of Sims stans, with user defiant234 claiming that they can make for a more amusing and surreal experience.
Similarly, user AKookieForYou suggested that they’ve always enjoyed that the games aren’t afraid to mess with the fourth wall, saying: “(This) reminds me of the Sims in Sims 2 for PSP constantly referencing how they feel like they're being controlled by an outside force.”
