When they’re not creating hilariously broken potions, being hunted down by couriers, or testing out spells on chickens, Skyrim players sometimes just want to have a normal wander through Tamriel without anything weird happening.
After all, sometimes it’s nice to go back to basics and roleplay as a simple and serious Dragonborn, fighting baddies, doing quests and occasionally stealing some pocket change.
Sadly, there are still a few pesky bugs and glitches left in the game after all these years which can do a bit of a number on your immersion, as one player on Reddit’s sibling has found out in rather spectacular fashion.
Have you ever ended up unable to sleep after witnessing a particularly terrifying Skyrim bug?
The thread concerning this poor player’s plight on the Skyrim subreddit began with a post from their sibling, user ____Artorias, who shared an image of a character enduring a bit of a nasty facial glitch while trying to escape Helgen, captioning it: “My little brother’s Skyrim character got bugged, I have no idea what happened…”
Their fellow players were pretty taken aback by whatever the character had morphed into, with user Salohkin11 declaring: “kill it with fire”, Muted-South4737 adding: “salt the ashes” and Henrijs85 asking: “Did he say Beetlejuice three times?”
Thankfully, some were able to hold it together long enough to try and diagnose what had gone wrong, with user sansplayer suggesting: “it looks like an Argonian with Nord skin” and Rizenstrom saying: “(It’s) probably (due to) console commands. It's been a while since I played on PC but I think doing (the) showracemenu (command) before doing setrace can lead to funky stuff like this.”
Others shared slightly less scientific takes on what that creature looked like, with user Pine0wlple_x44 declaring: “Your brother is a Giant’s Club” and HappyGaymerBro implying that it bore a resemblance to everyone’s favourite Star Wars character, Jar Jar Binks.
Meanwhile, user blankk6 mused that experiencing such a strange occurrence so early in the playthrough might be a good thing, saying: “That's a fine tutorial for him. Now he'll understand that Skyrim is a buggy and scary place.”
