Skyrim’s uber-popular Sekiro combat mod receives 2022 remaster

Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.

A lot of these efforts have focused on making the game’s combat feel a lot more satisfying and in-depth, with new weapons, spells and animations helping to make killing enemies more satisfying than ever before.

One mod that’s been doing just that since 2020 is Kittytail’s very popular ‘Sekiro Combat SSE’, which brings the Fromsoftware game’s parry-heavy fighting style to Tamriel and has just received a 2022 remaster.

The new mod that delivers this overhaul is called ‘Sekiro Combat S’, and is the work of the original creator, modder Kittytail. A lot of their other previous work has been focused on magic, having brought some ESO-inspired storm-calling spells to Skyrim and added detailed quests that also give you the chance to beef up your list of magical abilities.

This time, they’ve decided to develop a standalone version of Sekiro Combat SSE, which doesn’t rely on tktk1’s ‘Ultimate Combat SE’ as a framework and comes with a number of interesting improvements over the original, some of which you might be able to spot in the video below.

In case you missed them, the changes include some enhanced visuals, with the sparks generated by each block now being emitted in fiery showers, more responsive movement animations and the ability to block some projectiles like arrows and spells.

Also included is support for the game’s first-person view, meaning that you don’t have to worry about having your immersion shattered by ill-timed effects if you prefer to play from this perspective.

While this version of the mod is designed to be lighter on hard requirements, you might still want to grab a couple of optional additions in the form of powerofthree’s ‘Spell Perk Item Distributor (SPID)’ and Kittytail’s own ‘Shinobi Tools’.

The former of these will give enemies the power to use the mods timed blocking against you, while the latter will give you the chance to fully embrace the Sekiro vibes by acquiring some of Wolf’s gear and powers.
