No matter whether they’re just training at Sky Haven Temple or are in the heat of a real battle, Skyrim’s Dragonborn generally spends a lot of their time in combat.
Then again, it’s hardly surprising how frequently they encounter so many fearsome foes like Alduin and the ebony warrior, given their insatiable appetite for taking on quests and visiting exotic locations.
Thankfully for those who are starting to feel as though their constant conflicts are getting a little bit stale, a new mod might be able to help re-invigorate your desire to hack and slash until the cows come home.
Is your Dragonborn’s dull sword in need of an auditory revamp?
The mod in question is called ‘Bleeding Edge - Bladed Weapons SFX Overhaul’ and is the work of modder Ithaelus, whose previous work has made Fallout 4’s melee combat sound much more vicious and increased the fear factor of the game’s feral ghouls.
This time, they’ve delivered a thorough overhaul of the sounds delivered by all of Skyrim’s bladed weapons, from one-handed daggers and swords to two-handed greatswords and battleaxes.
According to Ithaelus the aim was to: “make every battle into a cacophony of steel” and also to make the hits you land on enemies sound more weighty and impactful, with the video below serving as a preview of the kind of thing you can expect.
If you’re playing as a warrior and carry a shield into battle, another of Ithaelus’ recent mods might also be worth adding to your load order. Called ‘Bulwark - Shield Audio Overhaul’, this mod turns your blocks and bashes into “bassy, metallic slams (that) truly capture the raw strength of Skyrim's warriors and brigands.”
Both mods are compatible with lazyskeever’s massively popular ‘Immersive Sounds - Compendium’ mod, allowing you to completely switch up Skyrim’s audio if you like.
Ithaelus also claims to have similar overhauls for the sounds of the game’s blunt weapons and bows planned for the future, so keep an eye out for those if blades aren’t your thing.
