Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by overhauling iconic quests, revamping menus, and adding real-world pets to it, with a few even going as far as re-creating areas from previous Elder Scrolls games or giving players the ability to be drop-kicked by a giant.
For those who enjoy playing a bit of Elden Ring or Dark Souls when they’re not adventuring around Tamriel, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy chilling by a pyre at the summit of a mountain during your next Skyrim session?
The mod in question is called ‘Bonfires of Skyrim - Dark Souls Inspired Bonfires’, and is the work of modder Michael7R, whose previous work has helped to ensure the East Empire Company’s crates won’t start defying gravity if you install certain mods.
This time, possibly inspired by BoltTheMan’s massively popular OG Skyrim mod ‘Dark Souls Bonfires’, they’ve decided to set up a bunch of friendly little bonfires across the Special Edition version of the province, which make perfect places to rest your weary bones.
There are sixteen of these blazes in total, slightly more than the nine added to the game by BoltTheMan’s mod. All of them act as fast travel points and feature a chest that serves as shared storage across all of the locations, allowing you to deposit an item at one fire and pick it up at another.
You also shouldn’t have to worry about Michael7R’s work conflicting with any existing city overhauls you might have in your load order, with the fires that correspond to cities being situated just outside of them, rather than within the walls, as they are in BoltTheMan’s mod.
Plus, if you aren’t a fan of civilization, you can chill at the pyres stationed near places like Lake Ilinalta, Eastmarch’s hot springs or atop the Throat of the World, with Michael7R also seemingly being open to adding more fires to highly requested sites in future updates.
Regardless of whether you’re now sitting at a fire wearing the Creation Club crusader's relics in the hopes of channelling the spirit of Solaire during your boss battle with Alduin, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding.
