Skyrim modder makes stealth archers sound more deadly than ever

Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.

Some of these efforts have focused on revolutionising the game by adding massive new quests, huge mechanic overhauls or surreal door-based trickery to it, while others enact less showy changes simply designed to make things more immersive by allowing you to become a full-time treasure hunter or watch a hunter’s campfire be put out by the rain.

On the other hand, a lot of the most popular Skyrim mods simply endeavour to make the game look and sound as beautiful as possible, with a new one having overhauled the audio that accompanies archery.

The mod that does this is called ‘Deadeye - Bow SFX’, and is the work of modder Ithaelus, who also goes by the name pentapox. A lot of their previous work has also focused on enhancing Skyrim’s symphony of destruction, having improved the sounds of bladed and blunt weapons.

This time, they’ve decided to take on the twangs and thunks that accompany any archer’s ambush, giving some extra kick to the sounds that you’ll hear as you rain down a barrage of arrows on unsuspecting foes.

According to the modder: “Arrows will now whistle past and make tangible, audible impacts upon flesh targets, so that you know when you've hit your mark.”, with some sample sounds available via soundcloud if you want to try and judge for yourself if they’ve accomplished this.

Currently, the mod only affects traditional bows, though Ithaelus does seemingly have plans to add some updated crossbow sounds to the mod in a future update.

They also recommend that you team it with lazyskeever’s ‘Immersive Sounds - Compendium’ in order to get the most out of your revised auditory experience.
