One of the most appealing aspects of Skyrim is the variety of playstyles on offer, which help make every playthrough feel unique, with mages often being able to approach things differently than traditional warriors.
Their magical nature means that, whether you’re trying to fight the ebony warrior, negotiating your way through a complex quest that’s required you to visit several exotic locations or simply trying to have a bit of fun in the Arch-mage’s office, things are always interesting.
However, one thing that even the most proficient of conjurers can’t do in vanilla Skyrim is become a court mage in servitude to a Jarl, a fact which a new mod is attempting to rectify.
Ever wanted to dedicate your character’s magical knowledge to advising a Jarl?
The mod in question is simply called ‘Court Wizard’ and is the first ever work of modder peid, who says they had a bit of a frustrating experience getting it to work as they’d hoped, dubbing it “not a super great mod.”
Despite their apparently lacklustre coding skills, the concept they’ve delivered is quite interesting, adding a quest to the College of Winterhold quest line which should allow you to become the court wizard of Falkreath hold.
Once you’ve done so, peid suggested you’ll end up in a sort of "court wizard sandbox" mode, moving into your own room in Jarl Siddgeir and roleplaying as his advisor on all matters magical.
Unfortunately for those who check the boxes of playing as a female character and being fairly Machiavellian, a planned option to attempt to seduce the Jarl hasn’t quite made it into this version of the mod, though, quite frankly, this isn’t much of an issue, given that your Dragonborn can probably do much better than Siddgeir.
If that omission hasn’t completely shattered your enthusiasm for the mod, you’ll need to make sure your version of Skyrim has the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs installed, as it requires both.
