Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released.

Many have focused on changing the game by adding fresh adventures, new crafting stations, and revised combat mechanics to it, with a few even going as far as giving your Dragonborn the chance to have an immersive brawl or earn Dibella’s blessing without rudely breaking into a temple.

If you want to pass the time while you wait for Starfield or Skyblivion to arrive by getting to grips with some cool new weapons in Tamriel, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Fancy taking on some bandits using a magical scythe or whip next time you fire up Skyrim?

The mod in question is called ‘Fettered Fragments’, and is the latest work of modder KatJill. Some of their previous projects have added some floating arcane accessories and a very dark dungeon to the game.

This time, they’ve decided to create a bunch of scythes and whips that the Dragonborn can add to to their arsenal, all of which are made from “daisy-chained floating fragments”, giving them a very unique aesthetic that’s sure to impress the game’s guards, who can barely process the idea of a curved sword.

In order to craft one of these weapons, you’ll need to have taken the Arcane Smithing perk and gotten your hands on some of the broken weapon fragments that exist in the vanilla game as useless miscellaneous items, at which point you can head to a cooking pot, where you’ll find recipes for the weapons.

Here, you’ll be able to choose between making a physical scythe or whip, which functionally behave exactly like the game’s regular armaments, or adding some alchemical ingredients to the mix in order to produce the spell tomes for magical versions of the weapons.

While the former can be honed and enchanted as you’d expect, the latter can be imbued with one of seven special magical attributes, which control the type of damage they dish out and the colour of their visual effects, which look to be pretty spectacular no matter which option you pick.
