Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.

Many have focused on changing the game by adding everything from interesting quests, subtle immersive details, and even new alchemy recipes to it, with a few even going as re-creating dungeons from other Elder Scrolls games or serving giant sweetrolls to the province’s populace.

If you’re a player who can’t resist the pull of the arcane arts and are looking for something to spice up your combat experience as you conjure and blast your way across Tamriel, a couple of new mods might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like your mage’s arsenal of spells sound too limp to reflect their status as a master warlock?

The mods in question are called ‘Infernorum - Fire Magic Sounds Overhaul’ and ‘Fulminis - Shock Magic Sounds Overhaul’, and are the work of modder Ithaelus, who also goes by the name pentapox. Some of their previous projects have given the game’s bows and blades an auditory revamp.

This time, they’ve decided to take on the world of magic, endeavouring to make any fire and lightning that might shoot forth from your Dragonborn’s hands and into the face of a helpless bandit sound as deadly as it looks.

As you can hear in the clip above, the mod focused on fire magic imbues everything from fireballs and flame cloaks to novice flames with a bit of extra sizzle, making sure they’ll sound like they’re crackling and spitting as they scorch the air surrounding your body.

On the other hand, the mod that takes on the shock school will, in pentapox’s own words: “make you truly feel like a Sith Lord, a lightning Bender, or a sentient tesla coil” by giving each bolt you unleash a sharp, buzzing electrical harmony that’d make Emperor Palpatine blush.

If those tones are music to your ears, you’ll first have to grab lazyskeever’s ‘Immersive Sounds - Compendium’, which improves a huge amount of the other audio you’ll encounter as you explore Tamriel.

Regardless of whether your Dragonborn’s sonorous spells are now the envy of Winterhold’s college, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding.
