Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by finding fresh ways to improve its combat or adding everything from interesting new alchemy recipes, subtle immersive details and cosy player homes to it, with a few even going as re-creating dungeons from other Elder Scrolls games or serving giant sweetrolls to the province’s populace.
If you enjoy getting immersed in the power fantasy and lore of being a Dragonborn, but wish that every encounter with your winged brethren had to end with you absorbing a soul from their crumpled corpse, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.
Feel like you need more of a chance to chat with your lizard blood brothers in Skyrim?
The mod in question is called ‘Memorable Dragons’, and is the work of modder nimwraiths. Their previous work has added a quest about a dragon who’s experiencing some existential angst to the game.
This time, they’ve created three fresh and fully voice-acted quests designed to: “feature dragons that aren't warmongering beasts but intelligent animals with thoughts and desires of their own”, in order to counteract the idea that dragons are largely: “mindless beasts that just loved violence.”
As you can see in the clip above, the largest of the quests, which is called ‘Know Your Enemy’, certainly lives up to this ethos, giving you the task of solving riddles provided to you by a lizard called Mindokhinpaal. Starting off with a conversation outside of Dead Men's Respite, you’ll need to solve the string of brain-teasers in order to work out where to find Mindokhinpaal next and gradually learn more about his past.
The second of the mod’s quests, called ‘Plundered Seas’, takes place after you’ve collected the horn of Jurgen Windcaller and is centred around a dragon voiced by YouTuber Heavy Burns, which has developed an obsession with gold and can be found skulking in the ruins of a sunken ship.
Finally, there’s ‘False Idol’, which, as you might have gleaned from the title, involves a dragon that’s being worshipped as a god by a cult and is kicked off by you visiting their camp near Reachwater Rock.
The latter two adventures look to feature multiple possible outcomes based on the choices you make during them, so make sure you spend enough time interrogating your winged friends for all of the information you’ll need to make the decisions that’ll best suit your character.
Regardless of whether your Dragonborn is now pondering the philosophical quandaries conjured up by the complex psychological nature of their namesakes, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding.
