Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on adding fresh content to the game, such as massive new quests, huge building projects, or interesting player homes, all of which can help spice up your hundredth trip to Tamriel.
However, there are a few mods out there that go a bit further, completely flipping Bethesda’s RPG on its head and turning it into something that feels completely different by bringing surreal door-based trickery, or, in the case of a new mod, some World War 2 flavour, to it.
Fancy making your next Skyrim playthrough feel like it belongs on a history channel?
The mod in question is called ‘The Great Patriotic War - Skyrim WWII Overhaul’, and is the work of modder user2022101. Their previous work has also focused on Skyrim’s civil war, attempting to bring more large-scale battles to it without tanking your FPS.
This time, they’ve taken inspiration from the likes of Call of Duty: World at War and Company of Heroes 2, switching out the Stormcloaks and Imperials’ typical loadouts for military fatigues and guns, as you can see in the video below.
Don’t expect to find Winston Churchill wearing Ulfric Stormcloak’s robe though, as user2022101 seems to have taken inspiration from the conflict on the eastern front between Russian and German forces.
So, you might run into some Soviet rifle squads armed with Mosin-Nagants while out hunting or be abused by a group of German grenadiers wielding Panzerschreck rocket launchers while on your way to plunder a Dwarven ruin.
