Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by overhauling iconic quests, revamping menus, and creating interesting player homes, while others have switched up its combat with the likes of killer elemental animations and realistic arrows.
Meanwhile, some mods go a lot further than this, completely flipping Skyrim on its head by adding door-based trickery or multiplayer functionality to it. If you grew up playing Oblivion, there’s one such massive modding project with a new trailer you should definitely check out.
Looking forward to riding a wave of nostalgia through Cyrodiil once Skyblivion arrives?
As reported by PC Gamer, the project in question is Skyblivion, which has been in development since 2012 and has the lofty goal of re-creating the entirety of Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine.
The team of volunteers behind this huge undertaking have posted a bunch of updates on their progress over the years, with the latest being a fresh trailer, dubbed the ‘Official Release Year Announcement Trailer’ which you can watch in full below.
Featuring some killer shots of everything from the Imperial City, to Mankar Camoran’s Mythic Dawn cult and even a cameo by Mehrunes Dagon himself, the trailer is sure to get any Elder Scrolls fan on a certain age’s blood pumping.
That said, perhaps the most exciting detail arising from the trailer lies in its description, which contains a message from the Skyblivion team that states: “We would like to share today that Skyblivion is in a state where we can promise a 2025 release at the latest. We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation.”
Before you go cancelling all of your life plans from 2026 onwards, it’s important to realise that this freshly revealed release window will largely be dependent on how many volunteers continue or start to work on the project in the next couple of years, with the trailer urging those interested and with the necessary modding skills to sign up via the project’s website.
