No matter whether their role in life is to be a guard in a city or to be a merchant in a small town, Skyrim’s men are generally pretty tall.
This makes a lot of sense, after all, when you're battling your Shadow of Mordor-esque nemesis or a pack of lore-friendly Deathclaws, having an extra few inches to your wingspan can be a key edge in combat.
However, it seems one Skyrim modder disagrees, having decided to chop all of these brawny grunts and lanky blokes down to size, thereby turning them all into short kings.
Ever thought Skyrim’s Nordic warriors were a little too lofty?
The mod in question is called ‘Shorter Males’ and is the work of modder Stroudx, whose sole previous mod has decreased the height of the game’s women in a similar manner.
Now, though, they’ve decided to focus on the lads, having granted the wish of an anonymous Reddit user by ensuring that all male characters in Skyrim, including the player if they’re of the dudely persuasion, are around 10 centimetres or four inches shorter than their female counterparts.
This means that every chap in the province, from Ulfric Stormcloak, to General Tullius and even vampires like Lord Harkon may now need a little help to reach high shelves or a stepladder if they want to try and talk down to you.
If this sounds like a status quo you’d like to maintain, you’ll also want to grab Qwinn’s ‘IDRS - Improved Disabled Race Scaling’, which stops NPCs from busting out a pesky little trick from the vanilla game to return to their normal size.
This sneaky manoeuvre involves interacting with something, for example a cooking pot or alchemy table, which can trigger them to be resized to their default height, in order to prevent any clipping.
Thankfully, with Qwinn mod installed, you won’t have to worry about any sudden growth spurts from your titchy citizens.
So, order some clothes in a small size, consider also buying some stilts, and make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the wacky world of Skyrim modding.
