Warhammer 40K: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition might have had some decent critical reviews, but the majority of PC fans seem to hate the game. This remaster has “mostly negative” reviews that range from odd widescreen support, being too expensive, and not feeling like a big upgrade over the Anniversary Edition.
Although the devs are working on patches, they’re also giving players full refunds and paid upgrade options.
In a Steam Community post for the game, they detailed extended refund options and a paid upgrade path for owners of the previous Anniversary Edition. Gamers who want a full refund for this remaster will be able to do so, regardless of play time, by July 10. Similarly, those who bought the Anniversary Edition can get the game at 50% off by July 10 as well.
To entice players to keep their copies of Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition, the post promises that major updates that will supposedly fix the game’s issues are coming. Various crashes and soft blocks will get fixed in an upcoming patch. Steam Deck compatibility is also getting added, as players can’t access the game on Valve’s handheld right now.
After the critical success of Space Marine 2, it’s easy to see why excitement for the remaster of the first game was at an all-time high. The sequel exceeded expectations and even made fans buy that first game. It’s a shame that the remaster has so many issues on PC, showing just how difficult development can be for multiple systems.
Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition is only available on Xbox Series and PC systems, though we wouldn’t be surprised if a PS5 port eventually happens. Because of the issues we mentioned above, it seems that fans are better off with the Xbox Series ports until further patches are released. At the least, fans can always replay the excellent Space Marine 2 or the first game’s anniversary edition for a more competent experience.
