For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield, which is now pencilled in for September 6, can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of what you want to see from the next showcase of Bethesda's venture into space or how many mods you plan to install once it arrives, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
Currently, though, a few of the fans who’ve spent the last few months speculating about the game are discussing an Australian age rating for it, which suggests Starfield won’t feature any interstellar intercourse.
Are you a little heartbroken that vanilla Starfield seemingly won’t contain any zero-gravity bedroom antics?
The rating listing, posted on the website of the Australian government’s classification board, which provides an age rating to games and films before they’re released to the Australian public, categorises Starfield as an R/18+ rated game.
Fans on ResetEra have pointed out that this overall rating is slightly higher than those previously given by the board to both Fallout 4 and Skyrim’s Special Edition, with these being classified as MA/15+ games.
Meanwhile, over on the Starfield subreddit, one of the criteria given by the listing as justification for its rating decision stole the show, with user Dull-Caterpillar3153 creating a post that declared: “Heartbreaking news. The Australian rating confirms there is no sex in Starfield.”
While this comment and the others in the thread suggesting that the game’s post-release modding scene will probably add in a bunch of sexual content for those who desire it were seemingly delivered with a slightly sarcastic tone, it’s worth pointing out that the aforementioned rating for Skyrim and Fallout concluded those titles to have “Mild impact” and “Moderate impact” sexual content respectively.
That said, the rating for Starfield does seem to suggest that those arriving in space can expect some “Very mild impact” nudity and “High impact” with the latter being suggested as the main reason for the higher rating.
