For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield, which is now pencilled in for September 6, can’t come soon enough.

Regardless of what you want to see from the next showcase of Bethesda's venture into space or how many interstellar mods you plan to install once it arrives, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.

Currently, though, a few of the fans who’ve spent the last few months speculating about the seemingly sex-free game are discussing some of the fears about it that are keeping them awake at night.

Which aspects of Starfield are you most nervous about?

These deep space-based doubts are the subject of a recent thread on the Starfield subreddit, which began with a post from user Kaisler_98, who kicked things off by asking: “What worries you the most about Starfield?”

Their fellow spacers quickly shared a litany of concerns, with some of these being linked to existing Bethesda titles, such as user game_genta’s admission: “(That there’ll be) too many boring ‘fetch’ quests. Killing random enemies from random planets. Skyrim is my favourite Bethesda game, but compared to Oblivion, the quests (are) a downgrade. And Fallout 4 is very disappointing in (the) quest department.”

User soganomitora also cited Fallout 4 in their concern, but in a slightly different context, saying: “I'm worried that it's contracted Fallout 4 syndrome, where the game comes out and it's good or even great, but it was hyped up so much before release that that it can't possibly live up to expectations and so its trashed for issues that no one would normally even care about.”

On the other hand, a different user declared: “I love Bethesda, but I don't feel most of their narrative or character writing has been very good (barring a few small exceptions here and there like Nick Valentine) since like Morrowind, so ‘bad writing’ is my worry I guess.”

Some potential players were more worried about how they’ll adjust to life in space, with user MajorSmokers admitting: “I fear I’ll regret my background choice after I’ve played a few too many hours. (I) won’t know if I even like hacking, melee or even the pistol without VATS (right off the bat).

Thankfully, Kaisler_98’s answer to their own query wasn’t as concerning as some of the responses they received, with them lamenting: “I fear that the game might have too much amazing content.”
